Gingivitis is a common and mild form of gum disease (periodontal disease) that causes irritation, redness, swelling (inflammation) and bleeding of your gingiva, the part of your gum around the base of your teeth. It’s important to take gingivitis seriously and treat it promptly.
How to prevent Gingivitis?
You can prevent gingivitis by following proper oral health care routines, such as brushing twice a day for 2 minutes each, flossing, and rinsing your mouth with a non-alcoholic mouthwash, such as Listerine, every night.
Periodontitis, a more severe form of gingivitis, can lead to serious oral health issues. It can cause the gums to pull away from the teeth, leading to bone loss and potential tooth loss. Halitosis (bad breath) may also occur. It’s crucial to address this condition promptly to prevent further complications.
